Session 1 – Publics, actors and communities
Introduction: Martijn Oosterbaan, Utrecht University
Moderator: Beatriz Rufino, University of São Paulo
Speakers:
Kazuo Nakano, Unifesp
Andre Delfino, Movement in Defense of Slum Dwellers (Vila Prudente)
The focus of this session was on the stakeholders of urban transformation processes. If attention to infrastructures allows us to grasp the structural conditions in and through which people and things act, the attention to publics allows us to understand community formation, urban mobilisation and political action in the broad sense. Important questions at the centre of this session are: which actors and groups are included and excluded in urban innovation? What kind of urban networks provide people the chance to voice their grievances, support or innovate ideas?
